“Home is where the heart is”
Like never before, we, Australians, are to armour our land! Well, we are not at war physically, somewhat mentally with the pandemic, COVID-19, affecting our lives and has become the outspoken criteria that dictate our lifestyle choices. We are not completely free at this stage. In my opinion, it is high time to remind ourselves what Australian culture is about, where did we begin and what makes us one?
Aside from the Pandemic situation, the year 2020 will be a reminder of the massive Bushfires that swept across our nation with hundreds of millions of wildlife lost, landscapes scorched and communities devasted. Our professional and amateur firefighters, State Emergency volunteers and International firefighters fight relentlessly day and night to save homes, people’s lives and wildlife. The news of a local holding an injured Koala will stay in our memories as a reminder of Our culture, Our landscape, Our special wildlife. People across the globe visit Aussie land to explore unique nature and quirky wildlife. We, Australians, like no others, are lucky to share this land with koalas, kangaroos and listen to songs of a kookaburra.
Well, I count myself to be fortunate to have met someone in the business space whose work is a solid reminder of what makes us Australian. Her name is Nicole, a former graphic designer and the owner of Merry-Go-Round Handmade. For me, as a consumer, when I think of her business, I think “Home is where the heart is”.

Thus, today, we introduce the variety of Nicole’s products. Her crafty-arty mindset, marketing background and being a mum “hat” stimulated a birth of unique, quality, hand-made gifts and products are all available for you. Rather than looking 24/7 into a tablet, phone or TV, we, Australians and International guests, have an opportunity to embrace and cuddle a koala-pictured pillow or decorate the kitchen with upcycled tea towels. And, how about greeting your guests dressed in an apron of wildflowers or perhaps, let’s dress up a birthday party with Australia Day Patriotic Flag Bunting? How about a beautiful Xmas hand-crafted gift?

In a wasteful world, driven by consumerism, we truly have to focus on recycling materials and look after our resources as they become scarce, Nicole found a solution to the global problem-Sustainability. Her principle of 3 R’s that stands for ReThink – ReUse – ReCycle, reflects on her collections of hand-made products. Materials are often 100% Linen & 100% Cotton, both kiddies and adults are catered with the focus on comfort, longevity, quality and sustainability. Nicole introduced Vintage-Retro product range styles used in modern applications. For example, we love cooking in Australia. How many Cooking TV shows did we watch for the last five years? An item like an apron is an essential item for the busy and glamorous hostess. For example, this Metro Retro apron below are all “OOAK”, that is, “One of A Kind” (Source: Madeit’s website, 2020), reflects on Australia’s peculiarities- unique gift, practical, being Australian. It’s the One and the only.
“Merry-Go-Round Handmade” seems to be the right name. Nicole shared her range on various Australian online and offline venues. Let’s name a few: Seddon Makers Market, Etsy online shop and more. You might find Nicole here next time when you visit, once the stage4 lockdown is over!

I keep smiling now because the word “Love” is the core meaning of this business. Nicole makes everything with Love. Your wedding day or birthday party deserves that extra element of authenticity—the product line suits to little and grown-up kids. Kids are a powerful motivation to create and design. For example, this Bus Stop zip Pencil Case zippered pouch below comes in handy for curious, little, but smart individuals. Made of recycled materials, as a gift to a busy-passionate teacher would be perfect for a Teacher-Student day.
