One-day stay overnight idea in Melbourne! We are impatiently getting ready for the season “Social Life” to re-Open! It’s like the movie. We are waiting for the next series and hoping for a better finale. We don’t want a COVID-19 sequel though….
It looks that way with lifted restrictions and stays at home boredom we long for gateways with our families and friends. Surely, you agree with the statement that Boredom is underrated. Within the COVID-19 we had to re-learn, re-discover who we are? I wonder, what did you learn about yourself? To me, the realisation that work, career progress, projects opportunities are equally relevant no matter what time I am living. I also learnt what my daughter’s school program includes, and well, I also need to improve my patience’s level. With a busy lifestyle, my partner and I enjoyed the frequency of communication.
We could stay at home and read, watch the latest blockbusters releases on TV Box, Netflix and others. I appreciated doing this time but….
What I realised is that we, humans, need to get away, not from our family but for the sake of continuous improvement. So, when we are back home, those “grey colours” turn “green” again. The soul needs rest; the mind needs decorations/facade change; the body needs lightness and mobility. Well, this weekend we got away with only 20 minutes drive, blink, and we are in the CBD, Melbourne.

With multiple choices on Booking.com, we found Radisson On Flagstaff Hotel. It’s in the heart of my favourite sister – Melbourne, with a hotel car park available at a reasonable price. Walk-in and at the empty foyer you are required to measure your temperature and dip your hands into sanitiser. Big Tick, we need that reassurance that the place environment is Covid-19 free. Well, at least we are trying to be. My first thought was how quickly our life habits changed and is it something that will stick to us till the end? With a family of 3, we chose the Hotel for one good reason – Spa bath!

As much as it might be not the best time to splash in the hotel swimming pools that might be closed, after all, enjoy the comfort of your Junior Suite’s bath. If you travel with kids-grab the Junior Suite as you need some space too, the best part of the stay was the proximity to Flagstaff gardens and, Breakfast! We were able actually to sit down. Instead of the Buffet, tick off your preferences, and they bring it over! Kids love small packaging. I found it quite amusing to watch my daughter playing with jam, vegemite and butter wrapped for tiny fingers.
The scenery of Flagstaff gardens and waking up Melbourne generated a strong desire to enjoy the winter! We finally came out of the “cave”. You want to hug fully dropped, colorful leaves and let them go…
On a sunny winter day, why not take a boat ride along the Yarra River? With plenty of options, we had a 1-hour ride downstream to Docklands. My kid loved it because she had a choice of outdoor and indoor options. Choose a sunny day and book online. For now, with restrictions, you can find yourself alone in a 100 seat boat. Be ready for your temperature measurements and hand sanitising provided.
If you travel with your family- it’s perfect. Grab coffee takeaways, especially if you go solo because you would need a hot chocolate and something snug. As much as it’s a straightforward activity, I think it’s a kid-friendly one for a family of 3 or more! I should say that the town needs a heartbeat, the energy and I am confident we will get there!
Especially if you pass through North Melbourne with its little pop-up coffee shops, after strolling down for 10 minutes and trying to sneak into a warmer place with less than 20 people, we bumped into HotPoppyCafe. Pure, well-rostered coffee, hipster atmosphere, cosy brought us back to life. Drop in when you have time.
Your turn to share your ideas in action on what your favourite after COVID-19 weekend would be.
